The Tang Dynasty (618-907) is considered the Golden Age of Chinese poetry with such poets as Li Bai and Du Fu. The values associated with tea today were found in the poetry of the period. Literati, poets, and Buddhist monks developed new standards of appreciation and connoisseurship as they celebrated tea’s virtues in verse, in all levels of society
